What: Elvisfest is a celebration of the musical legacy of Elvis Presley. Dave Quick, cofounder of the Heavy Rebel Weekender, organizes this annual event on or near the birthday of the King of Rock and Roll (January 8th, 1935). Over the course of two nights, 20 bands (give or take) will each play a 40 minute set of the music of their choosing, but each band must incorporate into its set at least two Elvis songs. Musical styles vary widely and include Punk, Honky-Tonk, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Country, and Rock and Roll.

How Much: $12 per night
This is a couple of bucks more than previous years, but for a good reason. The extra money will go to the Masonic Home for Children, which is an orphanage in Oxford, NC. From Dave Quick: "I've met some folks who were raised there and admire them. Elvis was a generous man in many ways (Cadillacs, diamond rings), so if we're celebrating his music and style, then we should emulate his generosity in some way. Wish I'd thought of it before."
